I’m traveling to Belize, along with a few other countries in the Western Caribbean, on the NCL Gem. We chose this trip for two reasons, the Panama Canal and Belize. I had already started Bad Break in Belize when we booked the cruise, and I was very excited to be able to include an excursion to the rainforest. I don’t know if we will see howler monkeys or a jaguar (bucket list), but being there will inspire me to finish the first draft. So 18 days until the cruise, and 26 days until Belize. The next time I post about this beautiful country, it will be with one of my photographs.
If you are wondering why the novel is set in Belize if I’ve never been there, there is a good reason. There is a rainforest, there are wild animals, and most importantly, the national language is English. I wish I could write Betsy as bilingual, but as I have never had an easy time learning a second language, she will remain monolingual for the time being. Again, we write what we know. How many times am I going to play that card?
